Welcome to metimoteo's world.

Hi. I'm Timothy Hernández aka metimoteo. I'm not a clown...and don't play one on TV. I am a professional face painter. I began painting faces in 1988 when I was working at a childcare center in Topeka, KS. My first face painting kit was a wonderful Face Painting book and paint set published by Klutz® (by the way, they still publish it and you can order it directly from Klutz® or through any good bookstore). The book has many terrific ideas for beginners and a six-color palette and brush set from Kryolan (that's Kryolan, K-R-Y-O-L-A-N, not Krylon - they're different companies). I quickly mastered the basics of face painting with the help of the book and lots of assistance from the children at the childcare center—believe me, they were only too happy to lend a hand, or a face. I subsequently added bigger palette sets from Kryolan so that I could create more elaborate designs for my "clients." I now employ other manufacturer's paints in my business, but Kryolan is still my favorite.

I continued painting nearly every week through the nineties, as a way of rewarding the children in my care, but also to refine my skills. Sometimes I accepted offers to entertain at parties and other events through my contact with parents, but I was always content to paint the children I knew. I took a break from my work as a teacher and from painting children's faces in February 2000 to care for my oma (that's "grandma" to the uninitiated). Sadly, she died in April 2002 and I found myself unsure about what I was going to do with my life—taking care of her was my life! Even now I think of her every day, but I'm working steadily again, painting the faces of people young and the young-at-heart every week, bringing smiles to people and thereby bringing a smile to my face, too.

I love to paint full face designs, but I also enjoy painting tattoo-like designs on the hands, arms, shoulders, legs, and even feet of my clients. I can paint spot-on logos of professional & college sports teams, and I am equally proud of the cartoon characters I've painted over the years. Painting whole faces is fun because of the transformation that takes place as I work. It's so neat to see children react when they see themselves in the mirror for the first time after I'm done. Likewise, the positive reaction I get from clients when I paint their favorite team logo on their cheek is priceless. What have I painted more than anything else? Cats! I've painted literally thousands of cats since 1988, from tabbies to tomcats, and lions, tigers, cheetahs and leopards, too.
